Supersize Maternity Pads

D-day minus 28

Nothing quite makes you feel enthused for the day ahead like purchasing a 100 pack of nursing pads and 3 scarily huge packets of maternity pads, does it? Especially when you’re not exactly sure what nursing pads are. Are they the same as breast pads? Or do I need both? They definitely look the same, but heck – better to be over-supplied I think.

I thought I’d make myself feel better about it by hitting Bras’n'Things for some pretty hospital PJs but it was a bit of a lost cause. I mean, really, what was I thinking – lacy satin tops that will probably all but disintegrate at the merest hint of breast milk? I don’t think so.

Still, it definitely makes it all feel more real. The shopping, that is. I packed the baby’s bag on the weekend which was kind of exciting. And a little surreal to be filling a bag with teeny tank tops and gro-suits, and one or two cute toys, and all for a person who I haven’t yet even met. Who doesn’t even exist in our world. Packing my own bag is more daunting. Finally remembering to save the special hotline number for the maternity ward to my phone and then reviewing the hospital list has brought to mind all the blood and gore that’s ahead of me; the reminder that I’m going to be viewed in my PJs for several days by all and sundry, and that – following all reports by friends – I probably won’t care less. Part of me is quite quite certain that I’ll be whipping out the make-up bag and GHD at every opportunity (I’ll be damned if I’m going to be seen looking anything less than my best, whatever that may constitute at the time!), and part of me wonders if I truly won’t care and/or will be sending all hopeful visitors away long before they make it to my room. I do love the idea (the hospital’s, not mine!) of nurses as security staff!

Body plus baby? Easy!*
