Crazy Pregnancy Dreams

D-day minus 14

Did you have crazy dreams in the lead-up to giving birth? I know it’s considered quite normal to have bizarre stories parade through your head in the first trimester, but I haven’t heard much said about the last few months. Mind you, they’re not crazy so much as unsettling at this point. A few weeks ago there was the dream where I heard E arrive home, and then upon investigating why he hadn’t yet come inside I saw him hoon off into the night with his ex. With her driving! And both of them waving cheekily back at me. And it so so real – I was running down the street, gasping to breathe from the shock of it and all I could think was that now I’ll have to go and stay in a hotel because if I go to my parents he’ll find me, and then when I go into labour I’ll have to go to a different hospital to give birth! I gave him a bit of a serve the next day, which may have been a little unfair, but he got his own back the night after having dreamt that I’d phone-flirted with a short stocky man who he’d then beaten up with a baseball bat. What a lovely pair we make!

Last night was just as odd – I dreamt that the two of us were out and he recognised a girl in a cafe. All fine – but then he decided we should join her, took the only remaining seat for himself, and didn’t even introduce me. I stormed off in a huff and it lead to all manner of problems.

I’ve also been having a lot of dreams about violence, people breaking him, things going wrong, and – in one strange incident – the baby being born with ham for legs. Which I didn’t seem to find strange at the time, but was quite upset when (after keeping the baby in a barbie box in my backpack – as per hospital instructions – while at the gym) the ham legs fell off. And I was miles away from my hospital so didn’t know where to go to get them reattached.

I’m not a huge believer in dream analysis, and nor do I know anything about it, but I think I’m going to have to do a little investigation on this one.

At least these heavy dreams are generally surrounded by a deep sleep :-) `

Body plus baby? Easy!*

Postscript: Apparently it’s quite normal to dream about abandonment or bad things happening at the birth or to the baby at this time of pregnancy. It doesn’t mean anything.
